Because of our parent-teacher conferences, we have an inservice today, which meant that I got to experience Valentine's Day with middle schoolers yesterday for the first time since I was actually in middle school. It was pretty much the same as it was ten years ago. Dramatic.
Back in the day of my junior high days, there was always anticipation about who would get candy hearts or a carnation (hindsight, gross, carnations are icky flowers) from that special someone sold by the Student Council. There was always a dance coming up, and despite the grossness of middle schoolers, those dances were the best.
This year, my kids are 12-14 years old, and boy, are they hormonal. It was a pretty low-key day, though, which I appreciated. Obviously there was likely drama, but I managed to avoid both the drama and crying girls (out of sadness or happiness), so that was good.
So today, I'm celebrating Valentine's Day like this:
And to do that, I'm going to go to a kickboxing class at the gym and eat a cupcake. Winner winner, chicken dinner.
Happy VDay!

Sounds like a good idea for us single girls. Though, cupcakes are ALWAYS a good idea! :)
