The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly [GBU]: Week 37.

Ew. My two-week break from the chaos that is middle school is over. Again, let me say this: I love my job. So so much. But it's hard going back after a long break. Thankfully, today is an inservice day for collaboration and grading (or planning, if, like me, you're all done!), so I have one day to ease into the work routine again before I'm facing 24 12-14 year olds at a time, six times a day.

Anyway, if you're new, welcome to the GBU, a linkup that Kate and I host, where you share the good, the bad, and the ugly from your weekend with us.

Excuse my lack of pictures, please. I guess my weekend wasn't all that enthralling. Or Pinterest photos seemed to convey the message of my weekend just fine. Whatever.

First, THE GOOD. Friday night I went to a movie with a friend from work. It's only the second movie that I've seen in Omaha, and we went to the theater right by my apartment. I managed to only see one child, and just when I thought I'd successfully evaded him, he says hi. Hi, smelly kid. See you Tuesday. Leave me alone. Anyway. We went to see Silver Linings Playbook. I had no idea what it was about. I assumed sports. It wasn't. And it was awesome. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. Kind of a chick flick, but not really a comedy. Its best comparison in terms of weighty-ness and romance would be Love and Other Drugs. It was great.

Then, THE BAD. This weekend (okay, pretty much only on Friday), I read Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl. I hadn't known what the book was about, but I'd heard everyone talking about it, so I put my name on the hold list at the library and finally got it. And WHEW. That book was incredible. I ended up staying up until like 1:30 Friday just so I could finish it. Sleep was not coming easily. So the book wasn't bad, but the fact that I lost sleep because I just couldn't put it down was. You should read this book. You have to read this book.

Finally, THE UGLY. Duh. The weekend is over. Break is over. The real world is back. I no longer get to sit on my couch and watch endless reruns of Grey's Anatomy on tv or read all the books I want or go to the grocery store on a Monday. Real life, people. Bummer.

lack of amusement while trying to be productive at work.

Anyway, that's what was good, bad, and ugly about my weekend. What about you? Link up below and share with us!

  3. That movie looks good, and I really like both of those actors on the front cover! And I've heard good things about that book, so I'll have to check it out. Good luck back to classes tomorrow!

  5. Gone Girl was crazy! I read it a few weeks ago and was furious the first half of the book, and confused and creeped out the second half. But in a good way. If that's possible... It was definitely a good read. I almost felt it was similar in attitude to Breaking Bad. As in, it's a good story and a good show, but everybody is so disgusting that you hate them, but you can't quit.

I heard that that movie was good, but I still hate Bradley Cooper because of his character in He's Just Not That Into You. I guess I hold grudges. Haha.

  6. Someone needs to tell me what Gone Girl is about... I want to read it, but I have two other books I'm currently reading right now. I want to know what it's about so I can feel better putting the other two aside! ;)

Good luck with your first week back!
